The beta peptide of Alzheimer's disease
This peptide is present in the healthy brain in 10-10 molar
concentration. Its exact biological role is not completely known, it is
supposed to act as an inhibitor on the cholinerg system. In disease the
concentration incerases, and the fibril formation starts. More detailed
information of the disease and Alzheimer research can be found here.
You can also take a look at this
site if looking for Alzheimer info. Our sequences
from SWISSPROT and the multiple sequence alignment results
are available under the links.
