The  insulin protein

Insulin decreases blood glucose concentration. It increases cell permeability to monosaccharides, amino acids and fatty acids. It accelerates glycolysis, the penthose phosphate cycle, and glycogen synthesis in liver. Defects of insulin are the cause of hyperproinsulinemia and of type-II diabetes mellitus. For more information on diabetes visit diabetes.com. Our sequences from SWISSPROT are here, the result of the multiple sequence alignment is here.
