Transthyretin
Transthyretin (also called prealbumin) is a tetrameric human plasma protein
known to transport thyroxine and retinol. It is the major component of
familial amyloidotic plyneuropathy (FAP) amyloid fibrils, amd known to
have approximately sixty amyloidogenic mutational variants. Substitution
of only one amino acid occurs in the majority of the variants, with the
most frequent being the substitution of valine at position 30 with methinine
(Val30Met). Our SWISSPROT sequences are here,
and the result of the multiple sequence alignment is here.
