WHAT_CHECK: free WHAT IF verification subset

The protein verification tools from the WHAT IF program are now also available as a free stand-alone Silicon Graphics program, complete with all source code.

For the installation of this program you will need about 100MB of free disk space.

If you are interested, please download the installation instructions from our ftp-site and read and follow them carefully.

The package is currently available from:
WHAT_CHECK for SGI Machine swift.embl-heidelberg.de, directory /whatcheck If you do not have a Silicon Graphics machine, you might have a DEC ALPHA running OSF/1. In that case try:
WHAT_CHECK for OSF. Machine swift.embl-heidelberg.de, directory /whatcheck-OSF

The WHAT_CHECK program can work very well on its own. However, some checks use secondary structure assignments. These checks will be slightly more accurate if you install the DSSP program. See the DSSP pages for information.
Note:It is probably more convenient to do the actual downloading using the old-fashioned 'ftp' program, as the package is very big!
Check out the WWW Validation Server, it includes WHAT_CHECK procedures.

If you want to browse the WHAT_CHECK output for a PDB file see the PDBREPORT database.

If you're new to WHAT_CHECK, please have a look at a more detailed explanation of the output.
